Discussion Board Reply Example Discussion Board Reply ââ¬â Coursework Example Discussion Board There is no doubt that the process of hiring is a complicated one and various aspects have to be kept in mind to accomplish the purpose of hiring (Barnham, 2001). Interestingly, you have talked about ââ¬Ëstaffing needââ¬â¢ right in the start of the document; an aspect that is most often ignored. Of course how is it possible for an organization to choose the appropriate individuals if it ignores its needs. The assertion that employee referrals often have the best results raises a few questions in my mind. Isnââ¬â¢t it a fact that referrals can sometimes affect the ongoing process of recruitment, which is based on the idea of merit? In my opinion, if a job opportunity is advertised, the activity of exploring referrals for the selection of candidates should be stopped. On the other hand, if referrals are to be used for hiring purpose, a job should not be announced before the public (Aamodt, 2012). Merit demands that candidates are given equal opportunities and for this reason selecting candidates through referrals and through open advertisements should not be done simultaneously. It is interesting to note that you have talked about the fact that interviews need to follow a certain structure. A pre-designed structure of interview questions has many benefits. This is essential to ensure that all interviewees are subjected to a similar set of questions, since merit demands that evaluation of candidates be carried out on similar grounds. This appears to be more in alignment with the ethical standards that demand that individuals be treated in a fair manner.ReferencesAamodt, M. This makes the method improve the quality of product. The method hence becomes easy to apply in most engineering situations (Wu results obtained are only considered relative and do not indicate exactly show the parameters that has the highest effect on the performance characteristic value was not considered by the classmate. The method that was chosen also does not test all the combinations that the variables have due to orthogonal values. The method has also been seen to have a limitation of being offline and this makes it inappropriate for the processes that are always changing such as simulation studies (Harris, 2008). The difficulty that was brought about by the classmate was right as Taguchi methods have been criticized by users in literature difficulty that it has on accounting for interaction between the parameters. The method mainly focuses on designing quality rather that making correction on qualities that are poor. This makes them applied at early stages of development processes (Bendell, 2009). The hybrid approach provided the decision makers with the risks and benefits associated with selecting a supplier. The risk and benefit factors are then analyzed to determine relative importance and are used to compute a score.ReferencesBendell, T. (2009). Taguchi methods. Awesome Ball Girl and Perception Essay Example for Free
Awesome Ball Girl and Perception Essay In the short video of ââ¬Å"Awesome Ball Girlâ⬠, there is a young ball girl working in the field that makes such a great catch, most professionals would not have been able to make. At the start of the video you would think that you are about to see a home run after a great hit, but my eyes were drawn elsewhere; just like the crowd and two teams. This shows the first stage in the perception process: selection. Selection occurs when one or more of your senses are stimulated, where your mind and body help you choose what stimuli to attend to (Floyd 109). Of my five senses, this video affected my vision and my hearing since I was watching a screen; more senses would have been affected if I would have been in the crowd. We do not necessarily make conscious decisions about which stimuli to notice and which to ignore. Research indicates that there are three characteristics that make a particular stimulus more likely to be selected for attention. (Floyd 109) The first characteristic is that something unusual or unexpected will make a stimulus stand out. Second, that repetition or how frequently you have been exposed to something will make it stand out. Third, the intensity of a stimulus will affect how much you take notice to it. From the video ââ¬Å"Awesome Ball Girlâ⬠, two of the characteristics that stood out the most for me were repetition and intensity. I do not watch baseball often so since I am not exposed to that sport often, it stood out to me. In addition to not watching that sport often, the intensity of the crowd made me more interested because I knew something big was happening due to hearing the cheering and gasping. By the end of the video, all of my attention was focused on the young ball girl who just made an amazing catch. Once you have noticed a particular stimulus the next step of the perception process is to classify it by organization, the second stage of the perception process. Organization is the process of categorizing information that has been selected for attention ââ¬â the mind will apply a perceptual schema to it for a mental framework for organizing information (Floyd 109). Perceptual schemas help us organize sensory information in some meaningful way so that we can move forward with the process of perception. There are four types of schema that help to classify the information we notice about people: physical constructs, role constructs, interaction constructs and psychological constructs. (Floyd 110) Physical constructs emphasize appearances and objective characteristics (height, age, ethnicity, body shape) as well as subjective characteristics (attractiveness). Role constructs emphasize social or professional position (teacher, accountant, father, community leader). Interaction constructs emphasize behavior (outgoing, shy, aggressive, sarcastic, considerate). Psychological constructs emphasize thoughts and feelings (angry, insecure, jealous, worried). (Floyd 110) Looking back on watching this video, I feel like I could apply all of these constructs to the young ball girl. She was a younger white female; her appearance was average height for a woman, not tall and not short with an athletic build ââ¬â which is known to be attractive. The announcer for the game calls her the ball girl as well as the title of the video which gave the role construct. The interaction I could see was that she was a ââ¬Å"go-getterâ⬠and that she was not shy about going after the ball that the professional player missed. After the catch, she was walking back to her seat; she seemed insecure and or worried like she was thinking maybe it was a bad idea to catch the ball now that all attention is on her. Stage one, selection, helped me with stage two, organization because I knew what caught my attention. Seeing a girl running down the side of the field, hearing the crowd cheering and the announcer going crazy made me realize that something spectacular was happening even though I donââ¬â¢t watch baseball often. Once my attention was focused on the ball girl, I was able to use the types of schemas to classify the information that my mind noticed. The third and final stage of the perception process is interpretation. Interpretation in the perception process is assigning all of the information from selection and organization and forming a personal meaning. Three factors: experience, knowledge and closeness can all affect how you interpret something that you perceive (Floyd 111). Every personââ¬â¢s interpretations will most likely differ. For me, experience plays the biggest role since I used to play softball. I know how hard it can be to catch a ball at the rear of the outfield, let alone trying to scale a wall before catching the ball; which proves to me that this young ball girl has a lot of talent. To some people that may be avid baseball fans that attend a lot of games, this could be an event they will never forget, but for me, it is just a very impressive video that I will probably potentially forget about due to my lack of interest in baseball. I do not have doubts that this video is not real or accurate. Crazier things happen every day! After going step by step through the perception process, I see a very talented young girl that has the potential to be a great player on a ball team. Awesome Ball Girl and Perception. (2016, Sep 29).

The sing glass, the singing art Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
The sing glass, the singing art - Article Example It is also obvious from first glance that those sculptures do not seem to belong there on the car. There are almost no colors used in this artwork. The glass used is clear and the car is in dull white. There is, however, some appearance of fragility in the overall art installation. The glass sculptures are sparingly placed all over the car. The curves of the sculptures are very striking, and they are even more emphasized by the soft white light that illuminates it. They are cell-like abstracts in form. The dimmed surroundings gives off a hint of bluish effect on the light illumination on the glass sculptures. This effect gives off a serene mood, which is, at first, both amusing and perplexing at the same time. The rust on various places on the car is also emphasized by the carââ¬â¢s dull white color. Interestingly, even without immediately realizing the message of the artwork, one can immediately sense that the car is somewhat giving way to the glass sculptures. One would later on realize that the oldness of the car and the newness of the glass sculptures are part of the overall message of the artwork. Upon closer and longer inspection and reflection, it becomes apparent that Aoki is trying to depict bacterial growth on the car. The glass sculptures represent spores of fungi that seem to overtake the car. By this time, it is understood that the oldness of the car seems to say that old things give way to news growths. It could have a different meaning altogether, or it could be taken at face value --- where old things or surfaces become ideal places for fungi growth. By this time, too, it is understood that the light seems to say that these things (microorganisms) are usually unseen and ignored, and one needs to cast light over them to make them go noticed. Aoki might also be trying to say that bacteria are everywhere, but they are always unseen. This is just like the characteristic of the glass used. Glass is usually unnoticed, unless

value of a college education Essay example -- essays research papers
Value Of A College Education According to Lundberg (2003), ââ¬Å"adult students are one of the most rapidly growing segments of todayââ¬â¢s college student population, making up approximately 40% of all college studentsâ⬠(665). Having a college education is an important tool that contributes to several aspects of a personââ¬â¢s life. The areas that are impacted the most would be the professional and personal areas. It is important to learn the value of a college education in order to take advantage of what you learn and how to productively apply it in your personal and professional life. Having a college education is something that can always be looked at as a positive achievement that feels good and looks good on a resume. Earning a college degree can provide a lifetime of rewards and unlike most other consumer purchases such as a car, will only appreciate in value, not depreciate. Professional Aspects According to Vocational Training News (2003), despite the current economic climate, college students say having technology skills will greatly increase their employment potential (6). The job market is constantly changing each year. Jobs are now more competitive and having a college degree seems to be a necessity for most which is why having a college degree at least shows that an individual is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and has worked hard to accomplish a specific goal. Having a college degree also gives more opportunity to apply for jobs of interest. Larger Salary A college degree also allows for the opportunity to earn a larger salary. Having a degree also gives a person more confidence when negotiating salaries. Knowing that a company cannot use the excuse of not having a degree against you is a great benefit. Even though the cost of a college education is outrageous, the benefits of having a degree far surpass those costs. Loans can be paid back but it is very difficult to make a substantial amount of money without a degree. This reminds me of a saying that I once heard though I cannot recall who said it. "If you think the price of education is expensive, try the price of ignorance. You pay for ignorance everyday for the rest of your life."- Anonymous Respect and Admiration Everyone would like something to show from the hard work they put into earning their deg... ...ngs to different areas of a personââ¬â¢s life. In my case, I will have developed the skills and values necessary to be an asset to my company and elsewhere in the business world. I will now not be looked upon as just an ââ¬Å"entry levelâ⬠worker. More opportunities will be available for jobs that are of particular interest to me and as stated before, the opportunity for a higher salary will exist. By continuing my education, I will have achieved a great accomplishment and know that all of my hard work and determination has finally paid off. The value of a college education is priceless. Earning a degree can only make the future more desirable. In conclusion, I need to take it upon myself to further my education right now, without interruption, no matter what the obstacles may be. Hamlet Soliloquy Speech - 1816 Words
Hamletââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"To be, or not to beâ⬠speech is ubiquitous. From a Sesame Street lesson to a Charlie Chaplin movie to a Malcolm X speech, it is a soundbite, the epitome of acting, and a rallying cry for action. Like Da Vinciââ¬â¢s Mona Lisa or Beethovenââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Ode to Joyâ⬠, Shakespeareââ¬â¢s ponderous soliloquy seems to be more famous for its fame than for its merits, though it has many. How do directors and actors convince their audiences to engage with Hamletââ¬â¢s words, when the audience is more inclined to be pulled into their own thoughts and ideas about the soliloquy as soon as they hear the signifier of ââ¬Å"To beâ⬠? I will be examining approaches taken by directors and actors across the history of filmed Hamlets to create Hamletââ¬â¢s famous speech, focusing onâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In film, audiences are more naturally voyeurs than confidantes, so an audience for the soliloquy must be created inside of the context of the production. In Laurence Olivierââ¬â¢s 1948 film, the camera seems to zoom into the back of Hamletââ¬â¢s head and enter his mind. A blurry focus shifting from Hamletââ¬â¢s eyesââ¬â¢s point of view, looking at the water below, to a frame on Hamletââ¬â¢s face, allows the possibility that the audience is experiencing Hamletââ¬â¢s perspective, and Hamlet is having an out of body experience. This explains why the audience can still hear Hamletââ¬â¢s thoughts when his lips stop moving. Then upon ââ¬Å"perchance to dreamâ⬠, the jarring musical cue, camera shift away from Hamletââ¬â¢s head to a more normal frame of his entire body, and Hamletâ⠬â¢s opening of his eyes comprise moving outside of Hamletââ¬â¢s head as he wakes from a trance. Hamlet speaks the rest of the monologue out loud, with no audience except himself and the cliffs. The shift from inside Hamletââ¬â¢s mind to outside comes at the tone shift in the speech, the realization that the dreams of death are probably nightmares. Hamletââ¬â¢s desire to express his thoughts about the horrors of life and death out loud is believable and natural. Since the audience has been inside of Hamletââ¬â¢s mind, they are not likely to feel they are intruding upon Hamletââ¬â¢s thoughts. The boundary between public and private life is erased many times in Hamlet. For example, Hamletââ¬â¢s troubles and concerns come from his personalShow MoreRelatedThe Effects Of Soliloquy On Elizabethan Audience954 Words à |à 4 PagesDecember 18, 2015 Impact of Soliloquy on Elizabethan Audience In William Shakespeare s revenge tragedy play Hamlet, the prevailing themes of revenge, madness, and morality were recognized by the Elizabethan audience and appealed to them.
