Alongside these distinctions, there advanced a contempt against what was not considered ââ¬Å" the normâ⬠. For a long time, bias, particularly as prejudice, has started many abhor violations and wars. Over ages, individuals have contrived procedures to battle these shameful acts in the best manner conceivable, regardless of whether it be respectful or vicious methods of dissent. August Wilsonââ¬â¢s Pulitzer Prize winning play, ââ¬Å" The Pianoâ⬠, is set in the mid 1930s when prejudice was spreading like out of control fire. The play investigates two progressively various ways to deal with beating bias in America. Despite the fact that their methodologies contrast incredibly, both Berniece and Boy Willie both discover approaches to battle the issues related with living in a bigot culture. Servitude is still new in the psyches of numerous blacks and whites during the ââ¬Ë30s as are numerous cruel sentiments. Berniece and Boy Willie tackle the prejudice of their time similarly their folks did. Berniceââ¬â¢s character is fundamentally the same as her motherââ¬â¢s, Mama Ola. She decides to maintain a strategic distance from clashes over prejudice at whatever point conceivable, regardless of whether it implies staying silent about subjects that ought to be tended to. She thinks that its simpler to ââ¬Å" lay lowâ⬠than to make a circumstance. Berniece sees the historical backdrop of the piano with a similar hatred and distress that her mom held for such a large number of years. In one of many warmed contentions with Boy Willie, Berniece says, ââ¬Å" Mama Ola cleaned over this piano with her tears for a long time seventeen years worth of cold evenings and a vacant bed. For what a piano? To settle the score with someone. furthermore, what did it ever prompt? additional executing and more thieving.â⬠When Boy Willie talks, one can nearly hear the life and assurance of his dad, Papa Boy Charlesââ¬â¢ voice. He, much like his dad, has faith in the hypothesis: ââ¬Å"by whatever implies necessary.â⬠Boy Willie is eager to take the necessary steps and expel whoever holds him up; and that incorporates disposing of any white man that represents a danger against his fantasies. Kid Willie is glad that his dad gave his life to take the piano, with the carvings of his familyââ¬â¢s history, from Sutter, the man who oppressed his distant grandma and his granddad. Daddy Boy Charles accepted that his family would consistently be slaves as long as Sutter still had responsibility for piano. Kid Willie discloses to Berniece that she should reveal to her little girl, Maretha, about the story behind the piano with the goal that she can be pleased with her granddad. ââ¬Å"You should write down on the schedule the day that Papa Boy Charles carried that piano into the house. ..set up a gathering.. .have a celebration.â⬠Although their perspectives are like their folks, they are extremely contradicted in their techniques for managing bigotry. When bigotry is at its top because of uncertain issues on the two sides, the future for blacks in America appears to be grim. In spite of the fact that subjection has finished, merciless assaults against blacks despite everything exist and many are more regrettable off monetarily than they were as slaves. Berniece takes a gander at her way of life from a realistââ¬â¢s perspective with little positive thinking. She sees no possibility of development for blacks and communicates this when she says, ââ¬Å" Iââ¬â¢m going to come clean with her.. .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 , .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 .postImageUrl , .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 .focused content region { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 , .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114:hover , .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114:visited , .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114:active { border:0!important; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; darkness: 1; change: haziness 250ms; webkit-change: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114:active , .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114:hover { mistiness: 1; progress: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 .focused content zone { width: 100%; position: relative; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content enrichment: underline; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; outskirt sweep: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-fringe span: 3px; content adjust: focus; content enhancement: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u726b 64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u726b64682c5961b4c973656a6f847114:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: 12 Angry Men Essay.you at the base with all of us thatââ¬â¢s exactly where she living.â⬠Berneice accepts that blacks are at the base of life and they may never conquer their circumstance. She follows the possibility that a few blacks allude to as ââ¬Å" the house negro mentalityâ⬠. This epithet was authored for those slaves who were OK with their ways of life since they don't saw anything great that could emerge out of opportunity. Berniece accepts blacks should thankfully take what is given to them and work with what they get. On the off chance that they become to ravenous they may end up with nothing. Shockingly, Boy Willie decides to be hopeful notwithstanding his environmental factors. In a world that reveals to him that there is no future for minorities, Boy Willie is a dreamer. He sees a future for himself past the shade of his skin and is resolved to go out and get it. He likewise realizes that he can't trust that white men will drop accomplishment on his lap; he needs to get it himself. In spite of his sisterââ¬â¢s feelings, Boy Willie doesn't see himself at the base however rather at the highest point of society. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m living at the highest point of life. Her dad passed on attempting to demonstrate his masculinity to white men and she sees no good thing that can emerge out of standing up. Standing up can just make the day to day environment for blacks more regrettable in Berneiceââ¬â¢s assessment. Kid Willie adopts a progressively aggressor strategy to doing combating prejudice. Kid Willie is intense and straightforward and couldn't care less whose feet he steps on to express what is on his mind. He is brave and maybe stupid when he says, ââ¬Å" a nigger that ainââ¬â¢t hesitant to kick the bucket is the most noticeably terrible sort of nigger for the white manâ⬠. The freedom of speech and the right to express beliefs freely is a universal human right protected by Article 19 of the UDHR. It declares that ââ¬Å"everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expressionâ⬠and can ââ¬Å"hold opinions without interferenceâ⬠. The regional agreements of Iran, China and Bahrain are in accordance with the Universal Declaration and are fully dedicated to upholding the rights of the citizens, the government, and the overall welfare of their nation. While the government is often dealt a difficult hand with defining the boundaries of censorship, the idea of censorship is impermissible. The line between restricting and not restricting opinions becomes unclear when the universal right to free speech coincides with the basic rights of other citizens or openly threatens the balance of the state. Opinions contrary to that of the government do not justify refusing citizens their basic rights, like in the case of Iran, China and Bahrain. It is essential to protect free speech as a universal law for the benefit of society as a whole. The government of Iran, China, and Bahrain clearly violated the fundamental rights listed under the international human rights law. He starts off by talking about how he has been mislead by his beliefs before, so will start off by separating those beliefs that cause him to doubt. He would like to secure his foundational beliefs similar to a house, without a secure foundation, the house can fall. Descartes mentions how he occasionally realizes that he has been deceived by his senses. Some things seem small at a distance, but then when looking at the same object, at a closer distance, it is not what you thought it was, your vision had deceived you; so he says it is better that you donââ¬â¢t trust those who may have even deceived you once, the senses. We should not depend on just the senses to make judgments, we should be aware of the fact that our senses can mislead us. He [Descartes] asks if he even exists, writing and sitting by the fire, if these hands are even his, but then he says these questions would lead him to be perceived as he is crazy, and he so ignores the idea. Next, in Meditation I, Descartes is wondering how he can tell if he is dreaming or awake. He imagines, what if he is not really sitting by the fire, in his gown, and writing, what if he is actually in bed and dreaming. However, Descartes proves that even the senses can be deceivingRead MoreEssay on Descartes Failure4852 Words à |à 20 PagesDescartes Failure In his Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes strives first and foremost to provide an infallibly justified foundation for the empirical sciences, and second to prove the existence of God. Compare and contrast primary cells and cell lines. In your answer, make sure to address the following points? 2. Describe how cell lines are maintained in the lab. In your answer, make sure to address the following points? 3. Describe the process of differentiation. In your answer make sure to address the following points? Answers: 1. a. The preparation of primary cells for cell culture. i. The organ is isolated and selected (Stacey, Doyle, Alan, Ferro, Margherita, 2002).ii. The organ is dissected to remove fat and necrotic cellsiii. The cells are subjected to enzymatic degradation (Stacey et al., 2002).iv. Trypsin or collagenase is addedv. Re-suspend and seed the medium Conditions needed for cell to survive include; gas mixture and temperature of 5% CO2 and 37 degrees Celsius respectively, appropriate PH, glucose and nutrients (Stacey et al., 2002). Advantages of primary cells over in vivo i. Use of primary cell is cost effective ("Primary Cell Culture | Sigma-Aldrich," n.d.). ii. Primary cells use avoids ethical objections. Disadvantages of primary cells i. Primary cells take longer to grow ii. Culture and isolations costs for primary cells are prohibitive and high c. Cell lines originate from a cell culture made from a single cell. The main distinguishing features of cell lines from primary cells include, cell lines have minimal variability while primary cells have variability existing between preparations and the donor cells ("Primary Cell Culture | Sigma-Aldrich," n.d.). d. Advantages of using cell lines over primary cells in experimentation i. Cell lines take less time to grow unlike primary cells ii. Cell lines have minimal variability unlike in primary cells. Disadvantages of using cell line over primary cells in experimentations i. They provide less relevant results as compared to primary cells ("Primary Cell Culture | Sigma-Aldrich," n.d.). 2. i. Confluence is the approximate number of the adherent cells in the flask or dish of the cell culture (Mather, 2008). ii. The procedure of cell line passaging starts with the removal of the medium of the HEK 293 cell flask completely (Masters, Stacey, 2007). This is then followed by addition of 3ml trypsin to the medium. The next step is placing the flask containing the medium to an incubator at a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes (Masters, Stacey, 2007). Then rock the flask and wash down the cells by addition of medium and pipette to separate cell clusters into single cell lines. Add desirable volume of re-suspended cell mix into new plates. Finally, shake the plates or the flask in gentle manner to allow proper mixing then place them back to CO2 incubator at temperature of 37 degrees Celsius (Masters, Stacey, 2007).Passing cell lines helps to evade senescence. Passaging a cell line too many times results in cells having little in common with original reference strain. Preparation of cell lines for cryopreservation i. Harvesting cells in the log growth phase (Stacey, Hawkins, Fleck, 2011).ii. Bring both the semi-adherent and adherent cells into suspension by the use of EDTAiii. Remove a small aliquot of the cells and do cell quantification iv. Perform centrifugation on the remaining culture for approximately 5 minutesv. Re-suspend the cells in the freeze medium vi. Then pipette one aliquot of the cells vii. Place the ampoules in a freezer whose rate is controlled viii. The medium is then shifted to a freezer for cryopreservation 3. i. Differentiation is a process that happens in multicellular organisms where a cell with less specialization matures so that it becomes more discrete in its functions and form (Altman, 2001). The major importance of differentiation in multicellular organisms is that it provides them with a variety of cell specialized in performing specific functions. ii. Somatic cells differentiation starts with the chromatin for both plants and animals. Chromatin reorganization is the first steps that occurs which in turn lead to activation of the pluripotent genes including Oct3/4 in animals and NAM in plants, establishing pluripotentiality (Nakagawa, M., Yamanaka, 2010). There are a variety of activities that lead to chromatin modelling induced pluripotentiality that may include activity of the thrombin in serum, cell wall removal and viral infections. Basically, the presence of these stimuli signals the cells to differentiate thus that are how the cells know when to differentiate. iii. Stem cells have the following characteristics: Ability to divide and renew themselves Basic and unspecialized cells (Miki et al., 2005). Give rise to specialized cells through differentiation (Mather, 2008). According to Baker (2008) stem cells are appealing to the medical community because of their therapeutic potential. Jack enters and calls her a lazy slut, this shows his contempt for his wife and his short temper. Further evidence of this comes when he asks Alice to have an affair with him. The symbol of the request is in the apple but Jack changes his way of speaking to that of sympathy, not for anyone else but himself. He tries to gain the sympathy of Alice by acting hard done by as if in need of her. Not these last three months. Its only when I dream of you or like now talking to you he then pleads with Alice to have some pity. When Alice doesnt fall for his act he takes it out on Joan calling her an ungrateful old hag, and telling her hell break your neck if you speak to me. From this point on his is back to his miserable and aggressive mood which he keeps until the end of the play when he gets Joan hung, losing it only for a short time when Alice gives him it back. Joan Joan plays the act of an old sweet woman trying to get attention, yet when she is provoked she can be as spiteful and wicked as a witch and has a foul tongue. Examples of these two sides to her personality can be seen when she visits Margery in the barn in scene five and asks for some yeast. At first she is as Jack is in scene five with Alice trying to get sympathy A small crumb of yeast and God will bless you for your kindness to your poor old neighbour. Yet when she receives none and Margery is a little rude to her she responds by cursing her and saying; Devil take you and your man and your yeast and your beer and your bread and your cider and your cold face and she would have continued if she wasnt cut short by Margery. The way she starts of by talking of blessings from God to cursing from the devil shows the two sides of Joans personality, she is in fact a poor old woman, but she is so bitter by that that she curses and swears like a witch which is what gets her hanged in the end. tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2399489452585759290.post-61488133646009810642020-03-17T02:21:00.001-07:002020-03-17T02:21:02.258-07:00Discussion Board Reply ExampleDiscussion Board Reply Example Discussion Board Reply ââ¬â Coursework Example Discussion Board There is no doubt that the process of hiring is a complicated one and various aspects have to be kept in mind to accomplish the purpose of hiring (Barnham, 2001). Interestingly, you have talked about ââ¬Ëstaffing needââ¬â¢ right in the start of the document; an aspect that is most often ignored. Of course how is it possible for an organization to choose the appropriate individuals if it ignores its needs. The assertion that employee referrals often have the best results raises a few questions in my mind. Isnââ¬â¢t it a fact that referrals can sometimes affect the ongoing process of recruitment, which is based on the idea of merit? In my opinion, if a job opportunity is advertised, the activity of exploring referrals for the selection of candidates should be stopped. On the other hand, if referrals are to be used for hiring purpose, a job should not be announced before the public (Aamodt, 2012). Merit demands that candidates are given equal opportunities and for this reason selecting candidates through referrals and through open advertisements should not be done simultaneously. It is interesting to note that you have talked about the fact that interviews need to follow a certain structure. A pre-designed structure of interview questions has many benefits. This is essential to ensure that all interviewees are subjected to a similar set of questions, since merit demands that evaluation of candidates be carried out on similar grounds. This appears to be more in alignment with the ethical standards that demand that individuals be treated in a fair manner.ReferencesAamodt, M. This makes the method improve the quality of product. The method hence becomes easy to apply in most engineering situations (Wu results obtained are only considered relative and do not indicate exactly show the parameters that has the highest effect on the performance characteristic value was not considered by the classmate. The method that was chosen also does not test all the combinations that the variables have due to orthogonal values. The method has also been seen to have a limitation of being offline and this makes it inappropriate for the processes that are always changing such as simulation studies (Harris, 2008). The difficulty that was brought about by the classmate was right as Taguchi methods have been criticized by users in literature difficulty that it has on accounting for interaction between the parameters. The method mainly focuses on designing quality rather that making correction on qualities that are poor. This makes them applied at early stages of development processes (Bendell, 2009). The hybrid approach provided the decision makers with the risks and benefits associated with selecting a supplier. The risk and benefit factors are then analyzed to determine relative importance and are used to compute a score.ReferencesBendell, T. (2009). Taguchi methods. At the start of the video you would think that you are about to see a home run after a great hit, but my eyes were drawn elsewhere; just like the crowd and two teams. This shows the first stage in the perception process: selection. Selection occurs when one or more of your senses are stimulated, where your mind and body help you choose what stimuli to attend to (Floyd 109). Of my five senses, this video affected my vision and my hearing since I was watching a screen; more senses would have been affected if I would have been in the crowd. We do not necessarily make conscious decisions about which stimuli to notice and which to ignore. Research indicates that there are three characteristics that make a particular stimulus more likely to be selected for attention. (Floyd 109) The first characteristic is that something unusual or unexpected will make a stimulus stand out. Second, that repetition or how frequently you have been exposed to something will make it stand out. Third, the intensity of a stimulus will affect how much you take notice to it. From the video ââ¬Å"Awesome Ball Girlâ⬠, two of the characteristics that stood out the most for me were repetition and intensity. I do not watch baseball often so since I am not exposed to that sport often, it stood out to me. In addition to not watching that sport often, the intensity of the crowd made me more interested because I knew something big was happening due to hearing the cheering and gasping. By the end of the video, all of my attention was focused on the young ball girl who just made an amazing catch. Once you have noticed a particular stimulus the next step of the perception process is to classify it by organization, the second stage of the perception process. Organization is the process of categorizing information that has been selected for attention ââ¬â the mind will apply a perceptual schema to it for a mental framework for organizing information (Floyd 109). Perceptual schemas help us organize sensory information in some meaningful way so that we can move forward with the process of perception. There are four types of schema that help to classify the information we notice about people: physical constructs, role constructs, interaction constructs and psychological constructs. (Floyd 110) Physical constructs emphasize appearances and objective characteristics (height, age, ethnicity, body shape) as well as subjective characteristics (attractiveness). Role constructs emphasize social or professional position (teacher, accountant, father, community leader). Interaction constructs emphasize behavior (outgoing, shy, aggressive, sarcastic, considerate). Psychological constructs emphasize thoughts and feelings (angry, insecure, jealous, worried). (Floyd 110) Looking back on watching this video, I feel like I could apply all of these constructs to the young ball girl. She was a younger white female; her appearance was average height for a woman, not tall and not short with an athletic build ââ¬â which is known to be attractive. The announcer for the game calls her the ball girl as well as the title of the video which gave the role construct. The interaction I could see was that she was a ââ¬Å"go-getterâ⬠and that she was not shy about going after the ball that the professional player missed. After the catch, she was walking back to her seat; she seemed insecure and or worried like she was thinking maybe it was a bad idea to catch the ball now that all attention is on her. Stage one, selection, helped me with stage two, organization because I knew what caught my attention. Seeing a girl running down the side of the field, hearing the crowd cheering and the announcer going crazy made me realize that something spectacular was happening even though I donââ¬â¢t watch baseball often. Once my attention was focused on the ball girl, I was able to use the types of schemas to classify the information that my mind noticed. The third and final stage of the perception process is interpretation. Interpretation in the perception process is assigning all of the information from selection and organization and forming a personal meaning. Three factors: experience, knowledge and closeness can all affect how you interpret something that you perceive (Floyd 111). Every personââ¬â¢s interpretations will most likely differ. For me, experience plays the biggest role since I used to play softball. I know how hard it can be to catch a ball at the rear of the outfield, let alone trying to scale a wall before catching the ball; which proves to me that this young ball girl has a lot of talent. To some people that may be avid baseball fans that attend a lot of games, this could be an event they will never forget, but for me, it is just a very impressive video that I will probably potentially forget about due to my lack of interest in baseball. I do not have doubts that this video is not real or accurate. Crazier things happen every day! After going step by step through the perception process, I see a very talented young girl that has the potential to be a great player on a ball team. Awesome Ball Girl and Perception. There are almost no colors used in this artwork. The glass used is clear and the car is in dull white. There is, however, some appearance of fragility in the overall art installation. The glass sculptures are sparingly placed all over the car. The curves of the sculptures are very striking, and they are even more emphasized by the soft white light that illuminates it. They are cell-like abstracts in form. The dimmed surroundings gives off a hint of bluish effect on the light illumination on the glass sculptures. This effect gives off a serene mood, which is, at first, both amusing and perplexing at the same time. The rust on various places on the car is also emphasized by the carââ¬â¢s dull white color. Interestingly, even without immediately realizing the message of the artwork, one can immediately sense that the car is somewhat giving way to the glass sculptures. One would later on realize that the oldness of the car and the newness of the glass sculptures are part of the overall message of the artwork. Upon closer and longer inspection and reflection, it becomes apparent that Aoki is trying to depict bacterial growth on the car. The glass sculptures represent spores of fungi that seem to overtake the car. By this time, it is understood that the oldness of the car seems to say that old things give way to news growths. It could have a different meaning altogether, or it could be taken at face value --- where old things or surfaces become ideal places for fungi growth. By this time, too, it is understood that the light seems to say that these things (microorganisms) are usually unseen and ignored, and one needs to cast light over them to make them go noticed. Aoki might also be trying to say that bacteria are everywhere, but they are always unseen. This is just like the characteristic of the glass used. Glass is usually unnoticed, unless tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2399489452585759290.post-41849363045436203932020-01-24T03:31:00.001-08:002020-01-24T03:31:03.096-08:00value of a college education Essay example -- essays research papers Value Of A College Education According to Lundberg (2003), ââ¬Å"adult students are one of the most rapidly growing segments of todayââ¬â¢s college student population, making up approximately 40% of all college studentsâ⬠(665). Having a college education is an important tool that contributes to several aspects of a personââ¬â¢s life. The areas that are impacted the most would be the professional and personal areas. It is important to learn the value of a college education in order to take advantage of what you learn and how to productively apply it in your personal and professional life. Having a college education is something that can always be looked at as a positive achievement that feels good and looks good on a resume. Earning a college degree can provide a lifetime of rewards and unlike most other consumer purchases such as a car, will only appreciate in value, not depreciate. Professional Aspects According to Vocational Training News (2003), despite the current economic climate, college students say having technology skills will greatly increase their employment potential (6). The job market is constantly changing each year. Jobs are now more competitive and having a college degree seems to be a necessity for most which is why having a college degree at least shows that an individual is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and has worked hard to accomplish a specific goal. Having a college degree also gives more opportunity to apply for jobs of interest. Larger Salary A college degree also allows for the opportunity to earn a larger salary. Having a degree also gives a person more confidence when negotiating salaries. Knowing that a company cannot use the excuse of not having a degree against you is a great benefit. Even though the cost of a college education is outrageous, the benefits of having a degree far surpass those costs. Loans can be paid back but it is very difficult to make a substantial amount of money without a degree. This reminds me of a saying that I once heard though I cannot recall who said it. "If you think the price of education is expensive, try the price of ignorance. You pay for ignorance everyday for the rest of your life."- Anonymous Respect and Admiration Everyone would like something to show from the hard work they put into earning their deg... ...ngs to different areas of a personââ¬â¢s life. In my case, I will have developed the skills and values necessary to be an asset to my company and elsewhere in the business world. I will now not be looked upon as just an ââ¬Å"entry levelâ⬠worker. More opportunities will be available for jobs that are of particular interest to me and as stated before, the opportunity for a higher salary will exist. By continuing my education, I will have achieved a great accomplishment and know that all of my hard work and determination has finally paid off. The value of a college education is priceless. Earning a degree can only make the future more desirable. In conclusion, I need to take it upon myself to further my education right now, without interruption, no matter what the obstacles may be. When viewing feedback reports from 8 months ago in comparison to those written 2 weeks ago week the manager was able to see that more money was being spent on man hours in her department even though patient flow had actually decreased. By this valuation she realized she needs to adjust employees work schedules and do some changing around where they could be better utilized. Decisionà making When the financial manager chooses one of the options among the available alternatives. When opting to update their facility Dr. X and Dr. Y spent several months researching information on new resources and services that their community could benefit. They viewed health reports, statistics, and evaluated what would be most useful and bring in the most revenue for their facility. After analyzing, they realized that their community needed more radiology equipment and persona. They decided to focus on establishing a radiology department during their expansion. From a Sesame Street lesson to a Charlie Chaplin movie to a Malcolm X speech, it is a soundbite, the epitome of acting, and a rallying cry for action. Like Da Vinciââ¬â¢s Mona Lisa or Beethovenââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Ode to Joyâ⬠, Shakespeareââ¬â¢s ponderous soliloquy seems to be more famous for its fame than for its merits, though it has many. How do directors and actors convince their audiences to engage with Hamletââ¬â¢s words, when the audience is more inclined to be pulled into their own thoughts and ideas about the soliloquy as soon as they hear the signifier of ââ¬Å"To beâ⬠? I will be examining approaches taken by directors and actors across the history of filmed Hamlets to create Hamletââ¬â¢s famous speech, focusing onâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In film, audiences are more naturally voyeurs than confidantes, so an audience for the soliloquy must be created inside of the context of the production. In Laurence Olivierââ¬â¢s 1948 film, the camera seems to zoom into the back of Hamletââ¬â¢s head and enter his mind. A blurry focus shifting from Hamletââ¬â¢s eyesââ¬â¢s point of view, looking at the water below, to a frame on Hamletââ¬â¢s face, allows the possibility that the audience is experiencing Hamletââ¬â¢s perspective, and Hamlet is having an out of body experience. This explains why the audience can still hear Hamletââ¬â¢s thoughts when his lips stop moving. Then upon ââ¬Å"perchance to dreamâ⬠, the jarring musical cue, camera shift away from Hamletââ¬â¢s head to a more normal frame of his entire body, and Hamletâ⠬â¢s opening of his eyes comprise moving outside of Hamletââ¬â¢s head as he wakes from a trance. Hamlet speaks the rest of the monologue out loud, with no audience except himself and the cliffs. The shift from inside Hamletââ¬â¢s mind to outside comes at the tone shift in the speech, the realization that the dreams of death are probably nightmares. Hamletââ¬â¢s desire to express his thoughts about the horrors of life and death out loud is believable and natural. Since the audience has been inside of Hamletââ¬â¢s mind, they are not likely to feel they are intruding upon Hamletââ¬â¢s thoughts. The boundary between public and private life is erased many times in Hamlet. For example, Hamletââ¬â¢s troubles and concerns come from his personalShow MoreRelatedThe Effects Of Soliloquy On Elizabethan Audience954 Words à |à 4 PagesDecember 18, 2015 Impact of Soliloquy on Elizabethan Audience In William Shakespeare s revenge tragedy play Hamlet, the prevailing themes of revenge, madness, and morality were recognized by the Elizabethan audience and appealed to them. There are not a lot of diagnoses throughout tier 1 and 2 but in tier 3, there are diagnoses of mental illness, severe behavior disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. A group of occupational therapy practitioners with mental health expertise chose specific areas for children and youth such as task-focused behaviors or peer and social interaction that best represented certain components that predict the likeliness of children participation in school, at home, and in the community. In other words, if the children could interact in these social environments, comply with directives, and engage in task behavior they were more likely to succeed throughout school, at home, and community environments. A total of 124 articles were used within the research; the breakdown being 77 as Tier 1, 27 as Tier 2, and 20 classified as Tier 3. Defining ââ¬Å"Viceâ⬠To understand Mandibleââ¬â¢s claim that society is vice-driven, one needs to loosely examine The Grumbling Hive which was later included in his larger work, The Fable of the Bees: OR, Private Vices, Public Benefits. Mandible starts off by describing ââ¬Å"A Spacious Hive well stockââ¬â¢s with Bees, That lived in Luxury and Easeâ⬠(Mandible, 1705, lines 1-2). He states they were a large colony with science and industry and a good government, evidenced by the fact that ââ¬Å"They were not Slaves to Tyrannyâ⬠(Mandible, 1 705, line 9). We will write a custom essay sample on Mandeville Analysis or any similar topic only for you Order Now The bees worked hard at their trades, which served to make the society (the hive) thrive, but he observes that this was not without consequences. He notes hat although the hive worked hard and ââ¬Å"Millions were employedâ⬠(Mandible, 1705, line 35), there was always a separate class or group that worked harder than the rest: ââ¬Å"And some were damned to Scythes and Spades, And all those hard laborious Trades; Where willing Wretches daily sweat, And wear out Strength and Limbs to eatâ⬠(Mandible, 1 705, lines 41-44). He also notes that there is always a group of people who will take advantage of those hard workers for their own gain, and that this deceit was wide-spread and affected all groups and trades. As evidence, he points out that people filed needless assists; lawyers would delay hearings and pocket the retaining fees like burglars looking for the best way to break in; physicians valued money and power over the health and well-being of their patients and instead chose to study ââ¬Å"Rules of Artâ⬠; the ââ¬Å"Priests of Joveâ⬠, although eloquent,â⬠. Al past Muster, that could hide Their Sloth, Lust, Avarice and Prideâ⬠(Mandible, 1705, lines 74, 85, 89-90); the Kings were cheated by those who served them, and even Lady Justice dropped her scales so she could grasp her bribe of gold. (Mandible, 1705, line 142). In this description of the flourishing hive, Mandible paints us a picture, not of a society flourishing from hard work, sweat, and ââ¬Å"doing the right thingà ¢â¬â¢, but of a society getting ahead through tricks, deceit, and greed. This is the entire basis for his concept of ââ¬ËViceâ⬠. We do nothing out of pure altruism. In Mandibleââ¬â¢s eyes, everything is driven by Our own self-interest, our need to fulfill our own wishes, Wants, and desires through selfishness, dishonesty and indulgence on luxury goods. In the Preface of his larger work, The Fable of the Bees: or, Private Vices, Public Benefits, Mandible clarifies his position further when he states: â⬠so they that examine into the Nature of Man, abstract from Art and Education, may observe, that what renders him a Sociable Animal, consists not in his desire or Company, Good-nature, Pity, Affability, and other Graces of a fair Outside; but that his vilest and most hateful Qualities are the most necessary Accomplishments to fit him for the largest, and, according to the World, the happiest and most flourishing Societiesâ⬠(Mandible, 1714, p. ). Mandibleââ¬â¢s views were refuted by Adam Smith in his 1759 work, The Theory f Moral Sentiments when he stated: ââ¬Å"Every thing, according to him, is luxury which exceeds what is absolutely necessary for the support of human nature, so that there is vice even in the use of a clean shirt, or of a convenient habitationâ⬠(Smith, 1 759, p. 506). It is Smithââ¬â¢s view that there is no vice present or intended when our actions are ââ¬Å"honorable and nob leâ⬠(Smith, 1759, p. 501). However, even Smith, who was one of Mandibleââ¬â¢s biggest detractors, later admitted: ââ¬Å"But how destructive sever, this system may appear, it could never have imposed upon so great a number of persons, nor eve occasioned so general an alarm among those who are the friends of better principles, had it not in some respects bordered upon the truthâ⬠(Smith, 1 759, p. 508), leaving us to believe that perhaps Mandibleââ¬â¢s concept (and consequence) of ââ¬Å"viceâ⬠is actually true. The Products of ââ¬Å"Viceâ⬠In Mandibleââ¬â¢s hive, the society and itââ¬â¢s economy is driven by the vices of the bees. Their wishes, wants, and desires for ââ¬Å"thingsâ⬠drive the production and consumption of these commodities. An increased demand for ââ¬Å"thingsâ⬠will lead to more people working to produce those items, which will lead to a argue supply available to the populace (many times at a lower cost due to mass production), and an increased consumption of those items, which leads us back to higher demand, which equals more work, and so on. Mandible also goes on to say that there is a causal relationship between this ââ¬Å"viceâ⬠and the ingenuity of the worker, which leads to prosperity even for the poorest members of the hive (society): ââ¬Å"Thus Vice nursed Ingenuity, Which joined with Time; and Industry Had carryââ¬â¢s Lifeââ¬â¢s Conveniences, Itââ¬â¢s real Pleasures, Comforts, Ease, To such a Height, the very Poor Lived better than the Rich before; And nothing could be added moreâ⬠(Mandible, 1705, lines 97-103). It is important to pause here a moment and point out that we are not discussing those items required to meet basic, day-to-day needs (food, clothing, and housing). We are discussing those items over and above the basics, I. E. : fine clothing, fancy furniture, and expensive food and drink (what he would call luxury items). This ââ¬Å"conspicuous consumptionâ⬠(a term first coined by Thorniest Evolve in his 1 899 book entitled, The Theory of the Leisure Class: An Economic Study of he Evolution of Institutions) still drives our economy today. A large portion of our population lives well above their means. They purchase houses many times larger than they need, drive vehicles marketed to ââ¬Å"upscaleâ⬠buyers interested in ââ¬Å"brand identificationâ⬠, and take out second mortgages they canââ¬â¢t afford so they can purchase huge Class A motherhood they use once a year, or install a pool which sees limited usage, all because of this need to have the ââ¬Å"thingsâ⬠that project a certain image or lifestyle. These luxury items and the markets they drive were huge in our current society, until the bottom fell out Of the market and everything came crashing down. In 2005, Carol Lloyd Of the San Francisco Chronicle noted: ââ¬Å"In the U. You read "Mandeville Analysis" in category "Papers" S. , a trend in 1 sass toward large houses began, with the average size of a home doubling over the next 50 years. This trend has been compared to the increase in SUB purchases, also often a symbol of conspicuous consumption. People have purchased huge houses even at the expense of the size of their yard, the inability to save funds for retirement, or a greatly increased commute time, up to a couple of hours. Such large homes can also facilitate other forms of consumption, in roving extra storage space for vehicles, clothes, and other objectsâ⬠(Lloyd, 2005). In The Theory of the Leisure Class, Evolve argued that social honor was originally based on ownership of private property. In earlier times, wealth was seen as evidence of the instinct of workmanship, but more recently wealth itself is worthy of praise. Originally, the leisure class sought to demonstrate its wealth by not working. But as industrial society evolved, conspicuous consumption became the best way to demonstrate oneââ¬â¢s wealth. The leisure class is expected to consume the best in food, drink, shelter, argotic, services, ornaments, apparel, amusements, and so on, and because the leisure class stands at the top of this ranking system, it is incumbent on all classes that rank below them to follow their example (Evolve, 1899, Chi. 4). When Vice is Removed So what happens when ââ¬Å"viceâ⬠is removed from society? In Mandibleââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"hiveâ⬠, the bees eventually get tired of living in greed and injustice, so they call on Jove to bring virtue to their society. But, Oh ye Gods! What Consternation, How vast and sudden was the Alteration! In half an Hour, the Nation round, Meat fell a Penny in the Poundâ⬠(Mandible, 1 705, lines 242-245). Even the lawyers were affected in this new society: ââ¬Å"The Bar was silent from that Day; For now the willing Debtors pay On which, since nothing less can thrive, Than Lawyers in an honest Hiveâ⬠(Mandible, 1705, lines 250-251 256-257). Justice return ed, physicians tended the ill, the clergy ministered, but yet, the hive was still collapsing. Virtue has been restored, but the society begins to self-destruct. With the drive for self-interest gone, economic development dies and the bees become lazy and unmotivated. The bees are now selling off ââ¬Å"Stately Horses by whole sets; And Country Houses to pay Debtsâ⬠(Mandible, 1705, lines 325-326); they are moving to other trades where they feel they can make a living, only to find that those trades are ââ¬Å"oââ¬â¢er-stocked accordinglyâ⬠(Mandible, 1 705, lines 342). Their lands and houses arenââ¬â¢t worth what they paid for them, work is scarce, all, it seems is lost. So, they resolve to go about everyday life, living as simply as they can to get by: ââ¬Å"And, when they paid the Tavern Score, Resolved to enter it no moreâ⬠(Mandible, 1705, lines 357-358). The Haughty Chloe has to sell her furniture from the Indies, she goes longer before buying new clothes, and the rare fruits she previously enjoyed are now a thing of the past (Mandible, 1705, lines 367-381). It seems that by seeking honesty and virtue, the society destroyed itself. The bees start to abandon the hive. The few that remain take shelter in ââ¬Å"a hollow tree, Blest with content and Honestyââ¬â¢ (Mandible, 1705, lines 407-408), In the last part of the doggerel, Mandible presents ââ¬ËThe MORALâ⬠: ââ¬Å"Then leave Complaints: Fools only strive To make a Great an honest Hive. Tendon the Worldââ¬â¢s Conveniences, Be Famed in War, yet live in Ease Without great Vices, is a vain Utopia seated in the Brain. Fraud, Luxury, and Pride must live; Whilst we the Benefits receiveâ⬠(Mandible, 1705, lines 409-416). Mandible commented in the preface to Fable Of the Bees that he wrote The Grumbling Hive ââ¬Å"to show the Vileness of the Ingredients that all together compose the wholesome Mixture of a well-ordered Societyâ⬠. He further stated that: ââ¬Å"For the main Design of the Fable â⬠¦ Is to she [show] the Impossibility of enjoying all the most elegant Comforts of Life that are to be met with in an industrious, lathe and powerful Nation, and at the same time be blessââ¬â¢s with all the Virtue and Innocence that can be wished for in a Golden Ageâ⬠(Mandible, 1714, p. ). We can apply this notion that vice is the foundation of national prosperity and happiness to the economic mess in the United States today. There came a point in our current economy that people began to realize they were in debt too deep. Many times, applications for credit were ââ¬Å"doctoredâ⬠so that a consumer could take out more credit than they could really afford. The result was that consumers ove r-extended and bought multitudes of ââ¬Ëthingsâ⬠hey did not need and could not pay for in pursuit of ââ¬Å"statusâ⬠. Once this realization set in, people began to back away from the excesses of the previous decade: they spent less and tried to save more, they started to sell off their expensive purchases, and they tried to cut back, settling for the day- to-day items necessary to sustain life. Some economists say this sudden frugality actually made things worse, because when people stopped spending, the economy shriveled up. The price of land and houses plummeted, new building stopped, workers in all kinds of industries lost their bobs, factories closed, and the unemployment rate skyrocketed. People started defaulting on loans at an alarming rate. The market was flooded with used motor homes and people were stuck with houses they couldnââ¬â¢t afford, but couldnââ¬â¢t sell. Foreclosures were (and still are) at an all-time high. It seems the American dream has vanished. While Mandible believed the ââ¬ËViceâ⬠that causes us to buy ââ¬Å"thingsâ⬠in excess is part of the downfall of the hive: ââ¬Å"Great wealth and foreign treasure,â⬠Mandible wrote, ââ¬Å"will ever scorn to come among men unless youââ¬â¢ll admit their inseparable companions, avarice and usury: where trade is considerable, fraud will intrude. To be at once well- bred and sincere is no less than a contradiction; and therefore while man advances in knowledge, and his manners are polished, we must expect to see at the same time his desires enlarged, his appetites refined, and his vices increasedâ⬠(Mandible, 1714, p. 201 it is interesting to note that the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Denmark and Norway) have remained relatively stable. In these countries ââ¬Å"where many people pay 50% of their income in taxesâ⬠to support their high-benefit welfare system, these ââ¬Å"systems eve been acting as stabilizers to their economies. If you lose your job in Sweden, you can expect to receive of your wages for the first 200 days of inactivity, up to 680 kronor (EYE) per day, dropping to 70% for the following 100 days. If you lose your job in Norway, you will receive 62% of your previous salary for up to two yearsâ⬠(Pouchesââ¬â¢, 2009). Kristin Halverson, Narratorââ¬â¢s finance minister, states: ââ¬Å"In these days, we see that a strong welfare state, together with free education and healthcare, has acted as a buffer that stabilizes the economyâ⬠(Pouchesââ¬â¢, 2009). Perhaps this is why the Scandinavian entries were affected much less than the United States during the recent recession. I doubt itââ¬â¢s because Scandinavia is much less prone to Mandibleââ¬â¢s concept ofââ¬â¢;CEâ⬠. It is much more likely that in a country like the United States where the welfare state has such strong disapproval, the competitive, ââ¬Å"get ahead at all costsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"keep up with the Jonesesâ⬠mentality of the American consumer is at fault. It is the ââ¬Å"do anything, say anythingâ⬠mentality that people are willing to employ to get what they want when they want it, whether they can afford it or not. Answer: Cell phones today mostly contain lithium-ion battery or more popularly known as Li-ion battery (in short LIB). These are a sort of rechargeable batteries where the lithium ions shift from the negative electrode to the positive one at the time of discharge and again when charging (Yoshino, 2012). Manufacturing Process The manufacturing of the lithium ion batteries are similar to the processes used in Nickel Cadmium cellsand Nickel Metal Hydride cells production (Pistoia, 2013). Micro-fabrication processes are suitable because of their capacity of helping ultra-miniaturize systems. Microfabrication is good with integration with electronics, simplification of technologies and taking advantage of scaling when it is working in the micro domain. There are also cost and performance advantages to microfabrication. Micorfabrication gives access to more intelligent materials with structures at the nano scale. During the process there is minimizing of energy and materials consumption. Mircrofabrication provides new possibilities in sensing and actuation because of favorable size scales. The future development of microfabrication methods must additionally explore the microfabrication process, while considering the commercial aspects like fabrication throughout and cost. What do you think about this poem? What kind of values does this poem speak of? This poem touches the reader in a very real and very sad way. This poems main theme was about a family sticking together through very hard times and having nobody to rely on but each other. Aside from family, I think that the most important value Tu Fu shows is goodness. He shows the importance of this when his friend helps out in his time of trouble. He is very grateful for the goodness that still lies within people. What is the short poem, ââ¬Å"Moonlit Nightâ⬠(836) about? Who do you think ââ¬Å"sheâ⬠is in the poem? What is the general atmosphere and feeling of this poem? What in the poem contributes to these feelings? This poem is about two lovers who are living apart for the time being. ââ¬Å"Sheâ⬠refers to his wife and/or lover. They arenââ¬â¢t together at the time and there is definitely a sad feeling because of the separation. He describes her in detail in line 5 which shows how much he cares for her and also verifies that he is not with her right now but wishes he was. This poem raises the question of when he will see her again. Like Tao Chien, Tu Fu also mentions is ââ¬Å"Thatched Roofâ⬠(837). What is the difference in their descriptions of their homes? What does lines 38-46 (838) of this poem mean? Why did he start the poem talking about his own situation and ended up talking about a ââ¬Å"towering roofâ⬠for ââ¬Å"poorest gentlemen of all this worldâ⬠? A hintââ¬âfocus on the word ââ¬Å"gentlemanâ⬠. In general what do houses stand for in poems, either in Tao Chienââ¬â¢s or Tu Fuââ¬â¢s? Tao Chiens reaction to the situation was more related to Taoism and Tu Fus was more related to Confucianism. Tao Chien more or less reacted without much thinking and went with the flow of nature. Tu Fu believes that because he leads a life of knowledge and morals that he should have a proper home. Last poem: ââ¬Å"Writing of My Feelings Traveling by Nightâ⬠(838)Try to picture this poem in your mind. What do you see? What do you feel? What is this poem about and what is the general atmosphere? I see water close by in this poem. I feel sadness and doubtfulness. I think this poem is about growing old and realizing how close to the end you are and wondering if you have lived to the fullest of your potential. Tu Fu is probably one of the most respected of all Chinese poets of the classical era. Given your understanding of, especially Confucian ideals, why do you think he is so admired? Do the poems reveal any of these Confucian ideals? Tu Fu is the perfect example of what a gentleman would be as far as Confucianism goes. His poetry is put together very well in a way that can relate and also teach the readers. He has a calm manor about him and doesnââ¬â¢t go over the top at all. He is able to connect with the reader on an emotional level. What general thoughts do you have of these poems? Tu Fus poems seem to be full of regret and sadness. By regret I mean he wishes he could still hold on to things, not change the way he handled them. He is very reserved and calm throughout his writings and this allows him to connect to a reader in a very real way. tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2399489452585759290.post-59179369720492804392019-11-25T06:56:00.001-08:002019-11-25T06:56:03.588-08:00The Ultimate Job Search Guide for MillennialsThe Ultimate Job Search Guide for Millennials If youââ¬â¢re a millennial, then youââ¬â¢re probably used to reading all sorts of articles, tweets, etc. telling you all about how millennials roll, especially when it comes to jobs. Millennials are job hoppers. Millennials are casual in the workplace. Millennials are obsessed with social networking. These broad-brush statements try to provide a broader cultural context for the generation, but they arenââ¬â¢t necessarily helpful if you happen to be a millennial, and are looking for career guidance. Thatââ¬â¢s why weââ¬â¢ve put together this handy guide, walking you through the job hunt from start to finish. Step 1: Figure Out What You WantMaybe youââ¬â¢re just finishing up with school. Maybe youââ¬â¢ve been coasting in an entry-level job for a while, or bouncing around in short-term jobs that donââ¬â¢t really scream ââ¬Å"long term career options.â⬠Whatever the case may be, itââ¬â¢s never too late to figure out what you really want to do with your li fe, and start building toward that goal.ââ¬Å"Do what you loveâ⬠is an ever-popular piece of advice. Itââ¬â¢s also not a hard-and-fast rule. Sure, the concept of getting paid to do something youââ¬â¢d do for free is the ideal for most working people. Itââ¬â¢s also not very realistic in a lot of cases. What you love to do may not pay well, or may not be feasible long-term. Whatââ¬â¢s most important to consider in setting your career goals is what you can do well, and how you can turn that into a career, not just a job. For example, being an accountant may not be the most glamorous career path, but if youââ¬â¢re a math whiz and can see yourself conquering various levels in the field, then itââ¬â¢s a solid choice. (You can still pursue your passion for interpretive dance in your free time, or turn your dog stylist business into a side hustle.) Thinking now about what your short- medium-, and long-range goals is a great first step because it helps you really focu s your time and energy during your job hunt.Step 2: Build Your ResumeOnce youââ¬â¢ve got your next steps figure out (or have at least identified where you want to target your job search), itââ¬â¢s time to start building your applicant package. The foundation of this will always be your resume. Resume trends and fads will always come and go (Iââ¬â¢m pretty sure we all thought weââ¬â¢d have video resumes by now), but you can never go wrong with the classic: an organized, efficiently worded one-sheeter that gives a snapshot of what youââ¬â¢ve achieved, and what youââ¬â¢re seeking to do next.Youââ¬â¢ve probably created a resume before and have a Word doc kicking around already, so what comes next might be a little painful. Scrap it. Create a brand-spanking-new one- one that doesnââ¬â¢t just reheat an older version of yourself and your career, with cut-and-paste updates. Take the opportunity to really think about every word youââ¬â¢re putting in your resume.Tip s for creating your resume masterpiece:Pick a format.Write a headline or an objective statement.Use strong action words to describe your experience.Outsmart the robots.Donââ¬â¢t forget: You can create a general, foundational resume that has the most up-to-date information about yourself, but itââ¬â¢s also important to customize your resume for each individual job for which youââ¬â¢re applying. You donââ¬â¢t have to create a new resume from scratch for each job opening, but you can customize fields like the headline, some bullet points, and skills to match the job description or the target company.Step 3: Build Your BrandNow more than ever, your brand is a factor in your job search. Your career brand (or your professional story, condensed into an easily pitch-able sentence or two) goes beyond your resume, and now extends to your online presence as well. To build your brand, itââ¬â¢s important to consider what information about you is out there in the public sphere, and how that might be perceived by potential employers. That means taking a close look at all of your social media profiles, making personal accounts private, creating new ones that have a professional shine, and showcasing your work.A personal website is a great way to accomplish this, as is building a robust LinkedIn profile. These avenues are great for giving a recruiter or potential employer more information than you can cram into your resume- showing rather than telling. As with anything in your job hunt, itââ¬â¢s crucial to keep your brand (and any public-facing websites, social media, etc.) friendly, professional, and updated as often as possible.Step 4: Build Your NetworkThis can go hand in hand with the brand-building, because itââ¬â¢s all about forging connections in your professional community. Your network (whether itââ¬â¢s people you know in person or digitally) can be one of your biggest assets in the job search. This doesnââ¬â¢t mean simply collecting names o n LinkedIn like those fishbowls full of business cards you see at restaurants. Meaningful connections are the ones that will benefit you the most, either by what you can learn, or what opportunities may come your way. Interaction is key- whether thatââ¬â¢s responding to a blog post, retweeting, or emailing to say ââ¬Å"Hey, I thought you had a really interesting point on X.â⬠And for the professional contacts that you know IRL, keep those bonds alive by having a coffee once in a while to catch up. Even a holiday card once a year can go a long way.Keeping your network fresh is a way to bolster your job search. You never know when someone who knows someone might have the right job opening, or can put in a good word for you. And even if you donââ¬â¢t get a perfect job opportunity handed to you via LinkedIn, you can still learn more about how your industry works, and what it takes to move onward and upward in it.Step 5: Upgrade Your Interview SkillsMillennials sometimes get a bad rap (fair or not) for always having noses buried in devices, texting over calling, and generally being digital-savvy over communication-savvy. This means that strong interview skills are essential. Like the resume, the interview is a part of the job hunt that doesnââ¬â¢t change much over time. The same sets of skills will likely determine your success (or failure) as they did for your parents before you.Interviews can be a minefield for everyone, so itââ¬â¢s important to be prepared.Tips for your interview prep:Have a go-to interview outfit thatââ¬â¢s spotless and professional.Work on your handshake, eye contact, and posture.Have your talking points ready to go.Be prepared for all sorts of questions.Ask good questions. The more prep and practicing you do before an interview, the more at ease youââ¬â¢ll feel on the day itself.Step 6: Become a Follow-Up NinjaAfter youââ¬â¢ve had an interview (or two) you just sit back and wait for the email to roll in, right? Nope. Donââ¬â¢t forget the crucial step of following up an interview (of any kind) with a thank you note to everyone who met with you. Prompt, same-day follow-up shows that you have great manners, and are engaged and enthusiastic about the process. Even if you had a terrible interview or didnââ¬â¢t get the job, these thank yous can help you stay on the radar for future opportunities.Tips for writing an ace thank you note:Get contact info at your interview. If you didnââ¬â¢t get business cards or catch someoneââ¬â¢s email address, itââ¬â¢s okay to ask the main point person (recruiter, HR manager, hiring manager) for Barbaraââ¬â¢s email address so you can thank her for her time.Make it short, but sweet. Include the highlights of your interview (skills you want to emphasize, any interesting discussion you had), but only briefly. They already have your resume.Proofread the heck out of it. This could be your last chance to make an impression before the hiring decision is mad e, so you want to make sure there arenââ¬â¢t any glaring typos or name mistakes in your note.Send it the same day. If the idea of sending your note from the lobby right after your interview sounds like a bit much, do it after you get home. But timeliness is the key, and that way itââ¬â¢s off your mind.Step 7: Be PatientIn everyday life we get so much instant feedback that we often get frustrated when some things lag- like job offers or news about next steps. When looking for your next job, donââ¬â¢t get frustrated too quickly. Youââ¬â¢re playing the long game here. And if youââ¬â¢ve done the best you can in setting yourself up for the job opportunity, things will come together for you. tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2399489452585759290.post-73220930112528857062019-11-21T14:20:00.001-08:002019-11-21T14:20:03.934-08:00Marketplace Fairness Act Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 wordsMarketplace Fairness Act - Essay Example es is defined as goods or services sold into a state in which he is not allowed to pay, collect or remit state or local sales and use taxes unless provided in the act. In case the remote seller uses the CSP and there is an error he/she is forgiven if there is a debt however CSP is not liable if the inaccurate information is fed into it and also both the remote seller and the CSP are not liable if the error is as a result of software provided by state. However the remote seller is liable is does not use the CSP. The act has effect on the remote sellers in that the MFA must pass and become effective law, states that require collection of sales tax must be a member of Streamlined Sales and Use Sax agreement, publish a notice that it is participating in the act, the remote seller must have a minimum of $1 million dollars in remote sales in United State, that the State will provide tax certified software provider and that the remote seller may use the CSP to calculate sales tax collections and the remote seller should remit collected tax to the appropriate state (United States, 115). This bill was passed by Senate with 70% of the vote in the spring agitating that this could become the law of the land. This is on the basis that small businesses are economic backbone of the state and nation (United States, 108). They provide jobs, economic growth, aid support in the communities they serve the loss of customers to the internet stores who sell goods and services at cheaper prices has lead to loss of customers hence higher unemployment, slow growth in the economy, underfunded charities and state and government receiving less revenue while more and more people want assistance. As stated in the Digital Goods and Services Tax Fairness Act of 2011, the house of the Representative has not yet voted for the bill nor has it set date to vote it in. As much as this bill has not passed the House of Representatives itââ¬â¢s doubtful that Congress will not pass some form of legislation tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2399489452585759290.post-10746535047191653172019-11-20T14:38:00.001-08:002019-11-20T14:38:03.952-08:00Privacy Policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 wordsPrivacy Policy - Essay Example Facebook collects more information than the other websites since it is an interactive website. Information regarding your friends, family relationship, and views on matters like religion, politics, music and various events also appear on Facebook. However, all the information given on Facebook is voluntary and the user is in control of the amount of information they put on the website. The websites automatically collect information when users interact with the websitesââ¬â¢ tools, services, application or advertising. Information on geographical location, device type, IP address, URL referral and page view statistics is automatically sent by the usersââ¬â¢ computer or cell phone. The privacy policy outlines the personal information that might be shared and with whom. The three websites indicate that only with usersââ¬â¢ consent would they share information with a third party. However, the policy does not apply to law enforcement, authorized third parties and governmental agencies. Subpoenas and court orders from jurisdictions within the United States and outside are adhered to by the websites. Information is also shared with lawyers, companies, and courts in order to protect the website and its users from violators of the websites statement of rights and responsibilities. The websites also share information with companies in order to offer joint services. The websites share information with domain administrators allowing them to conduct maintenance of the usersââ¬â¢ accounts. The websites clearly state that privacy policy is subject to change. In the case of Facebook, the changes apply to all the usersââ¬â¢ information and account. A fan of the Facebook Site Governance page receives the notice directly while others only find the notice on the site. Google privacy policy does not reduce the usersââ¬â¢ rights without explicit consent. (Jackson & Merlock, 2006) The only plausible rationale for this discrepancy between its legendary status and lack of formal recognition by the Academy is that the film was way ahead of its time. The film pioneered and engendered so many facets of the filmmaking process that it took several years for members of the Academy to warm up to its accomplishments. This essay will focus on the cinematography of the film and highlight how it contributes to and enhances the overall cinematic excellence. The opening sequence of the film shows the funeral of the iconic American media baron Charles Foster Kane in his isolated residence in the monumental Xanadu. What follows is a10 minute obituary in the form of a newsreel that encompasses all the key moments in the life of the great man. Beginning with his childhood in the rural American wilderness, the newsreel traces how much wealth and power Kane was able to acquire during his peak. This newsreel sequence is one of the most original and brilliant in the history of cinema. The serious yet authoritative voice of the newsreel narrator ebb and flow in-tune with the events of Charles Kaneââ¬â¢s life. The intonation, irony and subtle humour of this voiceover is executed to perfection. Matching this aural perfection is the visuals, which are some of the best montages ever assembled. The pace of the montage arrangement is brisk and the shots are short and crisp. The sequencing of these shots adheres to a musical rhythm, which is again in tune with the rhythmic oration in the voiceover. What is striking about this montage is its visual display of power ââ¬â either political or economic. The shots of elephants and horses airlifted to the private zoo in Xanadu are forever etched in the mind. It is difficult to lose the symbolism of power in air-lifting one of the biggest mammals in the planet. Likewise, the birdââ¬â¢s e ye view of the sprawling Xanadu is a visual illustration of Kaneââ¬â¢s wealth. When the voiceover narrates how politically influential Kane was, his image is embedded into a standard German propaganda shot of Hitler waving to a crowd. This is one of the earlier implementation of morphing and overlapping two discrete visuals into one shot. In the context of the film, not only was it humorous but also serves to illustrate the kind of political influence that Charles Kane wielded in his pomp. One of the most referenced scenes in the movie, illustrating Welles' and cinematographer Gregg Toland's use of deep-focus photography is the one about the childhood of young Charles Foster Kane. So much has been its impact that, ââ¬Å"After Citizen Kane Deep focus photography became widespread, especially in the so-called film noir films of the following decade. Welles' audaciously effective idea of combining miniatures with full scale settings in sweeping camera moves harkens back to 1930's T he Bat Whispers, photographed by Ray June, ASC for Roland West. The Kane visuals also have much in common with those of Mad Love (1935). It is evident that Toland originated some of the ideas that Welles utilized so perfectly, and that Walker and Dunn also influenced Welles. The collaboration of unit art director Perry Ferguson was even stronger than is usual between director, cinematographer and designer. Ferguson worked closely throughout with Welles in tinaevans199531http://www.blogger.com/profile/04058403247185136179noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2399489452585759290.post-49235314396378061052019-11-16T00:10:00.001-08:002019-11-16T00:10:02.781-08:00The Disadvantages Of Watching Television Media EssayThe Disadvantages Of Watching Television Media Essay This article talks about the disadvantages of watching television and the reality television shows, in this article the author is trying to say that there are a lot of disadvantages of watching television. However, Hitchcock left many unsolved issues at the end of this film. In contrast, when comparing Vertigo to more recent films of similar genreââ¬â¢, mysteries are usually always solved and thoroughly explained by the end of the film. Ironically, Hitchcockââ¬â¢s failure to explain everything to the audience in Vertigo is one of the filmââ¬â¢s best attributes. This lack of knowledge allows the viewer to use their own imagination and speculate as to what might or might not have become of certain characters. à à à à à Vertigo boasted several different themes. Jimmy Stewart, otherwise known as Scottie in the film, played this ââ¬Å"everymanâ⬠type whose personality was maliciously twisted into an overly obsessive man. His cause for obsession was a beautiful, young woman played by Kim Novak, known as both Madeleine and Judy in the film. Madeleine drew Scottie in so deep, that he literally became a different person. This film mirrored Hitchcockââ¬â¢s personal feelings and was considered to be his favorite film. à à à à à à à à à à While there are many scenes that prove the above theme, the following are three specific scenes that clearly spell out Scottieââ¬â¢s obsession. The scene where Scottie was sitting in his car alone after dropping Midge off at her home is a good first example. Midge and Scottie had just spent an afternoon together researching Carlotta Valdesââ¬â¢ history. Before Midge got out of the car she told Scottie, much to his dismay, that she was going view Carlottaââ¬â¢s portrait at the museum. As soon as Midge got out of the car, Scottie pulled out his brochure from the museum and turned to the page that hosted Carlottaââ¬â¢s portrait. As he stared at her picture for several moments, he began to visualize Madeleineââ¬â¢s face. Clearly this was one of the first signs of his growing obsession. An old college buddy hired Scottie to follow his wife, Madeleine, to discover where she was ââ¬Å"wanderingâ⬠off to. However, this job was consuming his life and S cottie was developing a serious intrigue for Madeleine, a very mysterious woman. à à à à à Another good exam... ...of a character. Hitchcock does an excellent job at relaying Scottieââ¬â¢s swelling obsession to his viewers. Visualizing Madeleine while Scottie was looking at the picture of Carlotta, his invasion of Madeleineââ¬â¢s personal space, a so-called stranger, and whispering her name, and then trying to makeover Judy into another person who is supposedly dead are all very apparent signs of obsession. These signs successfully show the viewer that Scottie is thoroughly engrossed with his subject, Madeleine, who had been ââ¬Å"lostâ⬠. The viewer is left to assume that Scottie will be unable to return to the emotionally stable person he was before the obsession took control of his life. Alfred Hitchcock was definitely ahead of his time and paved the way for many film-makers to learn from and expand on his expertise of being able to reach an audience, capture their attention, and make the audience feel what the characters are feeling.
